Description
You are looking at one of the finest lowlight karmann ghias left in
existence. This 1957 coupe is unrestored and has only 50,000 original
miles. This L317 lizard green (L318 deep green roof) ghia left the
factory August 9th, 1957 and was delivered to Riviera Motors in
Portland, Oregon USA on September 3rd.
The car was purchased new at Gilbert and Seibel VW in Vancouver,
Washington by Stan Jordan, who owned a Gas station in Portland Oregon.
Stan drove the car approximately 46,000 miles, before putting it into
long term storage in 1976. The car was discovered and put back on the
road in 1992.
The paint, engine, glass, bumpers, and interior are all original. It
appears there were a couple of areas that were re-sprayed on the
driver’s side. These areas show no sign of any body repair, just a
difference in the paint sheen. The engine has never been out of the
car. The only parts that have been replaced or added are a few rubber
pieces, tires, bumperettes (replaced with NOS because the originals
had lost their plating), battery, and coil.
There are numerous details on this car that are impossible to
duplicate and rarely seen, even on the highest level restorations.
This ghia has a set of pristine rare green rubber floor mats, perfect
green corduroy seats, gorgeous mohair headliner, (5) date coded
lemmertz beauty rings, original phoenix firestone whitewall spare tire
which has never touched the ground, off green tool roll that has never
been used, and all original 1957 glass including the windshield.
This is an original very well preserved vehicle. There are a few flaws
on this original specimen including small dings and a scrape on the
rocker panel. The chrome is nice original chrome but not perfect. The
transmission shifts smooth and is a little noisy under a load.
The car has been shown many times and has always brought home awards
including best of show which is no easy feat for a preserved car. It
has appeared in several magazines and has received international
notoriety as well. It was also displayed at the National Auto Museum
in Reno Nevada in 2005 which is a testament to the quality and
presentation of the car.
The original Motorola radio works great. It has its original and very
complete owner’s manual, which includes the Motorola radio manual and
warrantee card, and the nearly complete service coupon book.
This amazing ghia is fully serviced, turnkey, and ready to enjoy.
Serious inquiries only please.
