Description
1958 Karmann Ghia Cabriolet!
Produced September 24th, 1958. Originally a Texas car.
The only documented pearl white lowlight cab that was special ordered with a tan top. Verified by the birth certificate.
No expense spared, nut and bolt 3 year restoration. It was a very good base car, virtually rust free and dry with good bones. NOS parts list is extensive:

Turn Signal Flasher
Horn Relay
Tail light lenses
36 hp Motor
Hub caps
Glove box lock
Headlights
Zerk Fittings on front end

Chrome work done by a shop that does chrome for Pebble Beach winners. Bumper guards are proper 58-59 only, cast aluminum with cast in studs. Very uncommon to find a set of 4 early guards on a car. Some misc bumper pieces were NOS or very good cores, all pieces, even the NOS ones were replated.
Interior is the most accurately done lowlight interior I’m aware of. Including Heat Seamed door panels with proper “Diamond” pattern inserts. Rear hinge covers are covered in the same material. Door panel decorative trim pieces are high quality reproductions out of Australia.
Interior mirror is original to the car and perfectly restored by House of Ghia.
Side mirror is an original swan neck mirror, perfectly restored by House of Ghia.
Seats were covered in the proper True red vinyl with the proper grain using the original seat covers as a pattern. This vinyl material with this grain is not readily available and was specially made for this car. The original seat covers were used as patterns and reproduced with 100% accuracy and attention to detail is seldom seen.
Rubber floor mats are high quality reproductions by John Lemke. The tunnel rubber is from Wolfsburg West.
Sun visors are high quality waffle pattern reproductions from Australia.
Interior seat frames, steering column, e-brake handle, and steering wheel are not the typical silver beige. These components were spectrum color matched to the original paint pieces that came out of the car. With the assistance of Koch’s, we believe this color is the M592 “cannot be identified” on the birth certificate. It may have been an effort by the factory to match the interior components to a less common color combination to compliment the tan top.
Carpeting is oatmeal German square weave.
Convertible top was handled by House of Ghia with attention to detail throughout. Much time was spent on the top frame and door glass alignment. Top is german stayfast canvas, wood reproduction bows were used and massaged for a perfect fit, it wears all 3 decorative chrome pieces as a lowlight cab should have. Boot cover is also tan.
All mechanical components have been massaged, rebuilt, using NOS parts where available. Original transmission to the car is fresh. Motor is NOS out of a crate with photo documentation of it being removed, cosmoline being removed, and being installed. I’m not aware of another lowlight ghia in the world with an NOS motor.
Date coded fuel sending unit, clock, speedo, and gas gauge. The clock and speedo were restored by North Hollywood Speedometer. Fuel sending unit is temperamental and reads accurately about 50% of the time.
Horns were bench tested for an accurate note when honked. Horn relay is NOS.
Floorpan, suspension, and undercarriage are detailed.
Front trunk liner is a high quality reproduction from Australia.
Wheels have correct overspray as the white centers wrap around towards the back side of the wheel. An original paint ghia spare wheel was used to recreate this look.
Original Lemmerz trim rings were painstakingly restored by an old timer craftsman that is very selective about what he works on.
Latches and hardware were cad and nickel plated back to original finish and look using NOS pieces as a reference to recreate.
Runs and drives as good as it looks. Absolute knockout and fresh out of the wrapper.
It has had 2 test miles put on it to center the steering wheel, adjust the brakes, adjust the headlights, adjust idle speed, and check for rattles.
