1950 Split Standard Beetle.
This exceptional vehicle was originally restored by Dick Christensen at his shop in Phoenix, Arizona where I purchased it in 1997. This vehicle has the numbers matching Stiftung Museum birth certificate documenting it's authenticity.
I drove it on the DKF Return To The Fatherland Tour from Long Beach, California to New Jersey where it was shipped with the other vehicles on the tour by container ship to England. From there it was driven in England to a historic meeting with Mr. Ivan Hirst, the man responsible for saving Volkswagen after World War II. We then drove to southern England, ferried to Belgium and drove on to Wolfsburg Germany. Canrdly was shown at Willie Lotterman's last Bad Camberg show where Willie was presented with a Canrdly licence plate for his collection.
This 1950 Standard is in superb condition. At the Bad Camberg show, I was told it was one of the best 1950 Standards in the world. Since purchased in 1997, the motor has been totally disassembled and blueprinted by Daniel's Machine Shop. It is a rust free car that can be driven for pleasure or to shows anywhere. There is a syncro mesh transmission installed for great cruising, but the original crash box transmission is also included. The current wheels/tires are 15 radials which make for a nice drive. Also included are the correct 16 wheels which are also painted to match with correct 16 tires. A comprehensive spare parts kit is included in the sale along with many extras.
If you buy the car it will also come with several rare items from the DKF Return To The Fatherland Tour. Autographed magnetic DKF door panel, DKF tour shirt, several years of framed VW Classic posters featuring this historic 1950 Standard. Canrdly is in mechanically superb condition and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it cross country today. I have driven it thousands of trouble free miles from the rocky mountains to the Autobahn in Germany.
This car has won countless trophies: Best of Show, Best Paint, Best Upholstery, Best Vintage Restoration, People's Choice etc.
